Superior Douglas County Family YMCA

YOUTH SPORTS

The Y Youth Sports Program is an excellent way to introduce your child to the popular sports of flag football, basketball, volleyball, soccer, and t-ball. This program teaches the skills in each sport, while also focusing on the development of hand-eye coordination and motor-skills. Players learn the concepts of team work and fair play while interacting with other children. These programs place a high emphasis on having fun & ensuring that each player has equal opportunity to play.

Volunteer Coaches
Youth sports at the Y are a success in large part because of all the volunteer coaches. Each team in each league is coached, often by a parent, on a volunteer basis. Each Youth Sports program has opportunities for volunteers to coach, assist and referee games. If you’re a parent of a child enrolling in a youth sport and would like to be a coach, please provide information on the registration form.

Here are the youth sports programs we are offering currently:

NYE CHALLENGE
This one-of-a-kind teen event is set to kick off on May 9. A long-time Y-Member, Mike Almond, wanted to see something created just for teens. So we came up with the NYE Challenge!

Friday Night Hoops @ The Y!

This very popular program started at UW-Superior a few years ago as a recreational league open to all youth in grades 9-12. It has changed sites, days and times and was nearly out of options. But The Y is excited to announce we are the new site for Friday Night Hoops! Thanks in large part to Rick Rockwood and the original league board along with SHS staff, Ray Kosey and Krista Soderstrom just to name a few, we have a new home for this league!
