Youth Programs

Youth Sports is an important part of YMCA’s programming. Team scores and league standings are not kept. The core values of caring honest, respect and responsibility are incorporated into all programs. The philosophy of all leagues is everybody plays, everybody wins.

FLAG FOOTBALL “WINNERS”
PROGRAM
Fall

This fun and exciting program is geared
to teaching fair play and the fundamentals of flag football. The program is for boys and girls in grades 3 through 6.
DIVISIONS OF PLAY:
Division 1 - Grades 3 and 4
Division 2 - Grades 5 and 6

“ROOKIES” NERF FLAG FOOTBALL
Fall
This program is designed to teach the game of football to children in grades PK-2. Each of the one-hour sessions will cover the skills of the game and include time for scrimmage. Soft Nerf footballs and flags will be used.

GYMNASTICS
Year Around
The YMCA gymnastic program is a progressive program designed to help
children develop coordination, improve
flexibility, agility, strength and selfesteem.
Classes will include floor, beam, vault, and junior training bars.

Tumble Tikes - A preschool program for ages 3-5 that offers a half hour in the gym working on basic gymnastics skills using the floor, balance beam, and preschool bar. Emphasis will be on fun while learning beginning level gymnastics skills.

Rollers (Ages 6 & Up) - The gymnast will acquire basic knowledge of gymnastics and techniques and will be introduced to each of the apparatus: vaulting tramp, a single bar, low beam, and floor. This class is for those with little or no experience. Examples of skills worked on include 1-armed cartwheels, round-offs, handstand,
forward rolls.

Swingers/Kippers- This is an intermediate level gymnastics class where we work on mastering more difficult skills, conditioning, and flexibility using the vaulting tramp, low beam, single bar, and floor. Examples of skills worked on are front limbers, back walkovers, back handsprings, front handsprings.

Cheerleading (Ages 8 & Up)
An introduction to cheerleading that includes basic skills and routines done
with music. You’ll end up being able to
cheer on your team in style! The cheer
squad may even be able to cheer at one
of the Saturday Youth Sports games here at the YMCA. Space will be limited, so register early.

Hip Hop (Ages 6 & Up) - Grab a friend
and come learn some fun hip hop dance
moves. You’ll be grooving to your
favorite songs in no time. The final
class will be a dance presentation for
the parents.

INDOOR SOCCER
Late Winter/Early Spring
3rd—6th Grade
Get ready for the outdoor season with this fast paced indoor league. This 5 on 5 indoor league is offered in the gym at the YMCA. Teamwork and ball control will be emphasized, with the help of volunteer parents. Teams will be small to promote player development.

LITTLE NERF KICKERS SOCCER
Late Winter-Early Spring
Pre-K – 2nd Grade

This is a progressive indoor soccer program for grades PK through 2nd grade. Using indoor Nerf soccer balls, your child will have the opportunity to learn about the game of soccer. Sessions will be split into skill development, lead-up games and mini games. The emphasis is not on game play, but learning basic soccer skills with the help of volunteer parents.

MITEY MITE BASKETBALL
Winter
A youth basketball program for boys and
girls in grades PK-2 . Teams will be created based on grade level. The first 4 weeks will be spent practicing in clinics to learn the fundamentals of basketball including dribbling, shooting, and passing. There will be a break for the Holidays. The 4 weekends in January will involve scrimmages incorporating the skills previously learned.

YOUTH OUTDOOR SOCCER
Late Spring/Early Summer
Grades Pre-K – 6

The YMCA soccer program gives children in grades Pre-K to grade 6 an opportunity to participate in outdoor soccer program. We emphasize soccer skills, good sportsmanship, fair play, and team work. All teams are lead by volunteer parents, & passing, dribbling and shooting skills will be taught as well as the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility for all
individuals. All participants are guaranteed a chance to play in every game and to learn to do their personal best. Each team will practice once each week, and most games are played on Saturday mornings.
Divisions of Play: PreK-K, Grades 1& 2, Grades 3 & 4, Grades 5 & 6

T-BALL
Summer

The T-Ball program is a great introduction to the game of baseball for pre-kindergarten through second grade. Skills such as throwing, fielding, and hitting will be taught. Some mini-games will be played during the session. Emphasis is not on competition, but skill development. Soft-toss will be used for those who are ready, others will use the tee.

VOLLEYBALL LEAGUE
Fall

(Grades 5-8)
This recreational volleyball league is for all youth in grades 5-8. The emphasis is on skill development, teamwork, fair play and fun. All teams are managed & coached by caring, volunteer parents. Prior experience is not required. Team coaches will also be able to schedule a practice during the week.
